# ELT/CDC: Data Observability - Nomenclature

## Alerts

An alert sends an email notification when a metric(s) goes above or below its acceptable threshold.

## Notifications

An email notifications is sent to the list of email addresses configured for an alert when the metric(s) goes beyond its acceptable threshold.

## Metrics

A number that is generated by querying a column of data in a customer’s database table or a customer’s data warehouse table.

## Threshold

The level a metric needs to cross to generate a notification.
